Special Services

running man Getting Started
If your child is struggling in school an underlying disability may be the cause.
1.  How do I know if my child has a disability that is affecting his/her education?
Determining whether or not your child requires special services can be difficult.  Many parents reach out to trusted professionals for help. These professionals often include teachers, doctors, therapists and mental health experts.  Their combined knowledge can help you identify any underlying issues your child may be experiencing.
2.  How do I get my child evaluated for special services?
As a New York State resident, you can request to have your child evaluated at any time.  Please be aware, New York State law requires this request be in the form of a written statement from you to the school district in which the evaluation will be conducted.
3.  What is the evaluation process for OLL Nursery and Pre-K students?
All evaluations for children enrolled in OLL Nursery or Pre-K programs are processed through the school district in which you reside.  To start the process, please contact your district’s special education office directly.
4.  What is the evaluation process for OLL students in K thru 8?
All evaluations for children enrolled in OLL grades K - 8th are processed through the Malverne School District. To start the process, please contact Malverne’s special education office directly.  (This holds true even if you live in a school district other than 12. Please be aware, you will be required to register your child in school district 12 regardless of what school district you reside.)
